Inaugural Donut off 2023
Did you know that more than 10 billion donuts are made every year in the U.S. alone?
In 2023, the COH-IT department set out to find the best donuts in Southern Arizona! We have blindly taste-tested over a dozen donuts ranging from chains like Krispy Kreme and Dunkin to family establishments like Estrella and Amy's.
In our inaugural Donut Off, we pitted six donut chains against each other: Bosa, Donut Bar, La Estrella, Amy's, Fry's, and Dunkin. To keep the competition fair, we only selected a basic glazed donut from each of these establishments. Everyone scored the donut blindly with a max score of six. Surprisingly, Dunkin came out on top beating Bosa by a single point.
We followed up our first Donut quickly with a second one. This time we chose seven donut chains and decided on chocolate instead of basic glazed. Voodoo, La Estrella, Alvernon, Young, Whoops, Krispy Kreme, and Donut King would compete against each other this time around. Using the same scoring system as before, Voodoo Donuts would come out on top!
